EDUCATION & OUTREACH
An annual fundraising event for the Coalition with a trail run/walk at MERA (5K, 10K, mile walk) to promote and raise money for youth drug prevention efforts.
COALITION EDUCATION
Parent, family, and youth training opportunities include the CADCA Annual Conference, Local Guest Forums, Student Conferences, Tall Cop Presentations, and Community Town Hall events.
COMMUNITY EVENT INVOLVEMENT
Promotion, education, and advocacy participation at the Union County Fair, community events like Celebrate La Grande, School Resource Fair, and Drug Take Back Day.
NATIONAL CAMPAIGN SUPPORT
Promotion of national events like Red Ribbon Month, Lock It Up, National Family Night, etc.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
The mission of Union County Suicide Prevention/Response Coalition is to promote community collaboration for effective suicide prevention, intervention, coordinated response, and postvention for all residents and entities.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP
At the heart of the coalition is the youth. That why it is important for us to work with the youth of the Youth Council to get valuable insights into how to best meet our goals. Developing the youth as leaders is important to nurture their competence, confidence, and character. Yearly the Youth Council Youth are given the opportunity to attend the CADCA Mid-Year Conference stationed at a different location each year. Past members have traveled to Washington DC, Texas, Florida, and Atlanta.
SAFE KIDS UNION COUNTY
Safe Kids Union County has worked collaboratively since 2003 to provide a county-wide safety fair for all students in K-3rd and 4th-6th grades in alternating years. The goal of the annual safety fair is to provide students with safety presentations, information, and resources that are relevant to the recent local injury prevention areas identified by the committee in a fun, age appropriate setting. This program is now ran independantly by ODOT Community programs. UCSCC will continue to support the program as requested.
PREVENTION MESSAGING
In strong partnership with the Center for Human Development, the Union County Safe Communities Coalition has worked with the CHD for a number of years. In addition to partnering on Town Halls, the Youth Conference, and other community events, UCSCC and CHD strive to promote education.
SCHOOL INVOLVEMENT
The Safe Communities Coalition has on going communication with all six school districts in Union County to provide information on, assist with, and promotion of any activities or events that support youth substance prevention education for students, parents, and the local community. The partnership between the school districts and UCSCC helps provide consistency in messaging, ongoing collaboration, and identifying barriers unique to each school, as it pertains to youth substance prevention.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
The coalition partners with diverse community members and representatives of all sectors to align with and provide support in tackling the prevention goals most relevant to Union County. This includes partnering with health care, social services, law enforcement, business, parents, the faith-based community, and more.
